child connectOn October 3, 2016, I was notified that the Ohio Family Law Blog was selected by Feedspot.com one of the Top 100 Legal Blogs on the internet! These award winning blogs span various dimensions of law such as Business Law, Employment Law, Family Law, Construction Law, Personal Injury Law, Criminal Law and many other areas of law throughout the world.  Feedspot.com offers a site where you can save time by selecting topics to your specific interests, including law and everything from lifestyle issues to culture, business and sports and have the articles emailed to you. It is a very cool compilation of online information about most everything!

The blogs were ranked independently based them on the following criteria:

  • Google reputation and Google search ranking;
  • Influence and popularity on Facebook, twitter and other social media sites;
  • Quality and consistency of posts; and
  • Feedspot’s editorial team and expert review.

The Ohio Family Law Blog ranked #54 overall, topped the list of family law/divorce blogs and was ranked the second highest rated legal blog in Ohio.  In addition, our blog had previously received acclaim as a Top Divorce Blog by Attorney.org.

Raising Mentally and Emotionally Tough Kids

tough kidsIf you want your children to be successful, raise them to be emotionally and mentally tough.

Tough people don’t get upset easily. They are resilient in the face of adversity. They are great problem solvers, focusing on ways to deal with problems rather than complaining about things they can’t control.

These types of people don’t deny their emotions, but they don’t allow themselves to be victimized by their feelings. They get angry, depressed and anxious like the rest of us. However, their mental guidepost is a motto used by the Navy Seals. They are comfortable being uncomfortable.

They view unpleasant feelings or bad events as messages to be understood and acted upon. Their behaviors are deliberate, with an emphasis on what they can do differently rather than on what others should be doing.

Many kids that I see in my office complain about stressful events that are not problems to mentally and emotionally tough kids. The level of stress hasn’t increased with our kids over the years. Rather, more kids seem emotionally weak and unprepared to deal with life’s challenges.

You, Us and YouTube

youtubesm.jpgI have been practicing law now for a little over 30 years.  It is impossible to describe all the change I have seen in my practice over the years. They range from electric typewriters to voice recognition software to multi-function copiers that can print, scan and send faxes and emails; and almost everyone has a computer and is computer savvy. Ah yes, computers.  My first experience with a computer was in 1968 when students were required in my eighth grade class to take “Introduction to Computers.”  I would never have predicted then how much those large, clunky devices would change our lives forever!
