Embracing Change on Mother’s Day After Divorce
Mother’s Day is a day for moms and their children to celebrate the special bond that they share. However, if you are a mom who is recently separated or divorced, Mother’s Day after divorce may feel different from past celebrations. Even if you know terminating the marriage was the best for all, you may still feel emotions of sadness, guilt or loneliness.
If you are experiencing any of these negative emotions, it is beneficial to acknowledge these feelings rather than ignore them or try to sweep them under the rug. Give yourself permission to feel whatever you feel and allow yourself to recognize these emotions to start the process of moving on.
Think of it as an opportunity to establish new traditions that will make Mother’s Day after divorce a meaningful celebration for both you and your children. Unless your children are old enough to plan things for you, you are probably alone in making it a special day for you all. This is not a sad time but a great opportunity to move on and create meaningful memories.
